About the DT Max licence

DT Max is licenced to end users on a 12-month subscription basis. Every year, you are required to purchase a new licence entitling you to produce tax returns for the current tax year.

When you buy a DT Max licence, you are sent a 16-character licence key; entering this key into DT Max unlocks the features that you have paid for.

When installed without a valid licence key, DT Max operates in demo mode, which allows you to evaluate the software by producing tax returns for prior years. In this mode, a "DEMO" watermark appears on all printed returns until you purchase a valid licence to use a fully functional version of the product.

You will receive your licence key in the mail and/or via email after your product order or renewal has been processed. If you have not received your licence key, if the details are incorrect, or for any other question related to your licence, please contact DT Tax and Accounting client services at cliservices@drtax.ca or 1-800-663-7829.

The process of installing and activating your licence key is necessary to help prevent the misuse of your licence by another party, and to ensure that you receive access to product updates and software support.

Installing the licence key

If you are not permanently connected to the Internet, you should connect before installing your licence key. The activation procedure will transmit information to the DT Tax and Accounting server. If you run any firewall software, it may detect that this Internet connection is taking place and prompt you for permission to continue. Only the information that appears on this dialogue is transmitted to, and stored on the DT Tax and Accounting servers. To install and activate your licence key, select Install licence key from the DT Max Tools menu. Enter your Licensee name, Licensee efile number and Licence key exactly as they appear on the letter or email you were sent.

Once you have entered these details correctly, a summary of the licence rights will appear in the "Licence details" box. You must also check the box to say that you have read and agree with the terms of the DT Max licence agreement.

Activating your licence

The final step is the activation. Click the button Activate licence key; this will complete the activation and transmit the information on the screen to the DT Tax and Accounting servers via the Internet.

If the Activate licence key button is greyed out, then either some of your licence key details have not been correctly entered, or you have not yet checked the box to say you have read and agree with the terms of the licence.

If you do not have an Internet connection available, you can activate by phone. Call 1-800-663-7829 option 5; the DT Tax and Accounting representative will ask for the serial number, computer ID and computer name shown in the User details box. You will then be given a 9-digit activation code; enter this in the box labeled Telephone activation code and click the Activate licence key button.

After a new licence key is activated, DT Max automatically restarts so that the new licence terms can take effect.

Updating your licence over the internet

If you are renewing a DT Max product with the same licensing options as the previous year and your licensee name has not changed, you may update your licence key via the Internet. Only one Internet licence download is permitted per licencee per year.

The Internet method uses your DT Max client number and password from your existing licence file. If you are using a demo version of DT Max, you will not be able to download a new licence file unless you have made prior arrangements with DT Tax and Accounting client services and obtained your own client number and password.

Networks and multiple DT Max databases

When you install and activate your licence key, it activates the licence rights for the current DT Max database. All DT Max users accessing that database will then be granted access to the program as well as all optional features for which you are licenced - they do not need to activate the licence individually.

If you operate with more than one DT Max database, you will need to install and activate the licence key for each database separately. To make this task easier, the same user should handle all the activations as DT Max remembers the licensee name, efile number and licence key that were last entered.

Reviewing your licence details

To review your licence information, select About DT Max in the Help menu at the top of the screen. If the licence name or efile number is incorrect, if you wish to add or change licensing options, or should your key ever be compromised, please contact DT Tax and Accounting client services as soon as possible at cliservices@drtax.ca or 1-800-663-7829.
